Next month, an exhibition of work by thirty local textile artists opens at Stevenage Museum. All of the pieces are inspired by documents in the Wittewronge collection at Hertfordshire Archives. These include books of alchemy, medieval account rolls, stories of Tudor pirates, accounts of women accused of witchcraft and a charter dating from 1060. The artworks will be exhibited alongside many of the original documents as well as some of the artists' working drawings.
Visitors were impressed by the range of work on display when the Threads in Time exhibition was originally shown last year at Hertfordshire Archives. Among their comments were ‘Wonderful to see different interpretations of an amazing archive collection’ and ‘What a wonderful way to display history!’.
The exhibition at Stevenage Museum is open from 2 May to 11 July 2015.
