This website has been created to develop and promote cross discipline creative practice inspired by objects and narratives found within archives and collections. The initial project that launched this site was in association with the BCU Student Academic Partners Scheme 11/12.
In autumn 2011 MA Curatorial student Roma Piotrowska and MA Fine Art student Grace Williams worked in equal partnership with Dr. Sian Vaughan and Fiona Waterhouse to promote the presence of the collections through varied creative engagements at Birmingham City University Art & Design Archives.
The Art and Design Archives house a wealth of inspiration for artistic practice across all disciplines. Whilst used in traditional academic research, they are under-utilised as a source of inspiration by creative practitioners. Our aim is to awaken students to the possibilities of the Archives within the visual arts, as well as to increase the visibility and accessibility of its collections to design and craft students across the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media and creative practitioners beyond the University.
On this website you will find a variety of resources that aim to provide inspiration and support to anyone wishing to make creative use of the Art and Design Archives, as well ongoing developments of artistic interactions currently happening within the archives.
